How Do You Find Freedom? Week 3

April 30, 2023

Now may the God of peace make you holy in every way, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ comes again. 1 Thessalonians 5:23 NLT

3 PARTS

1. THE SOUL

MIND

WILL

EMOTIONS

“So fear the Lord and serve him wholeheartedly. Put away forever the idols your ancestors worshiped when they lived beyond the Euphrates River and in Egypt. Serve the Lord alone. But if you refuse to serve the Lord, then choose today whom you will serve. Would you prefer the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates? Or will it be the gods of the Amorites in whose land you now live? But as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord .” Joshua 24:14-15 NLT

2. THE BODY

Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away. These desires give birth to sinful actions. And when sin is allowed to grow, it gives birth to death. James 1:14-15 NLT

3. THE SPIRIT

‘Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart… Ecclesiastes 3:11 NLT

But the person who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with him. 1 Corinthians 6:17 NLT

And I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. I want to do what is right, but I can’t. I want to do what is good, but I don’t. I don’t want to do what is wrong, but I do it anyway. Romans 7:18-20 NLT

YOU CAN’T GET YOUR EXTERNAL LIFE IN ORDER IF YOUR INTERNAL LIFE IS OUT OF ORDER.

Oh, what a miserable person I am! Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin and death? Romans 7:24 NLT

Thank God! The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 7:25 NLT

WHO IS IN CONTROL?

1. ARE MY CHOICES LEADING ME TOWARD COMPROMISE?

You say, “I am allowed to do anything”—but not everything is good for you. And even though “I am allowed to do anything,” I must not become a slave to anything. 1 Corinthians 6:12 NLT

DON’T SETTLE FOR TEMPORARY CRAVINGS THAT CAN NEVER SUSTAIN YOU!

2. IS MY LIFE REFLECTING GOD?

“You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father. Matthew 5:14;16 NLT

For we are taking pains to do what is right, not only in the eyes of the Lord but also in the eyes of man. 2 Corinthians 8:21 NIV

THE WORLD SHOULD SEE OUR LIVES AND DESIRE WHAT WE HAVE IN JESUS!

Most People are insecure… Give them Confidence

Most People want to feel special… Compliment them

Most People want a bright future… Give them hope

Most People need to be understood… Listen to them

Most People want direction… walk with them

Most People are selfish… speak to their needs first

Most People get emotionally low… Encourage Them

Most People want to be included… Ask their opinion

Most People want success… Help them win

Most People want to be appreciated… Give them credit

3. AM I TREATING MY BODY AS TEMPLE?

Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 NLT

WHAT IF YOU VIEWED YOUR OWN BODY WITH THAT MUCH RESPECT AND REVERANCE AND STRIVE TO LIVE A HOLY LIFE?

Don’t you realize that your bodies are actually parts of Christ? Should a man take his body, which is part of Christ, and join it to a prostitute? Never!  1 Corinthians 6:15 NLT

For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come. 1 Timothy 4:8 NIV

The expensive utensils are used for special occasions, and the cheap ones are for everyday use. If you keep yourself pure, you will be a special utensil for honorable use. Your life will be clean, and you will be ready for the Master to use you for every good work. 2 Timothy 2:20-21 NLT

ACTION STEPS

JESUS DID THREE SIMPLE THINGS.

1. HE MEASURED ALL INVESTMENTS OF TIME AGAINST HIS PURPOSE.

2. HE TOOK TIME FOR SOLITUDE WITH THE FATHER.

3. HE DIDN’T TRY TO DO TOO MUCH.

Properly understood and managed, time is easily one of our best friends. poorly appreciated and mismanaged, it becomes a formidable enemy. Gordon MacDonald

ALONE TIME

PERSONAL TIME

GROWTH TIME

Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. II Corinthians 4:16 NKJV
